Historial Figurines by Les Etains du Graal - Hugues de Payens

Hugues de Payens was born in Champagne around 1070 and died in 1136.
He was called in 1095 by Pope Urbain II on a new crusade. In 1119 the Knight Hugues de Payens founded a militia called "The Poor knights of Christ" in Jerusalem. Only 10 years later, this militia took the name of the "Knights Templer".
Hugues de Payens was its first grand master.

It is interesting to know that you can find more than 65 ways of spelling his name in  XII et XIII century manuscripts.

This is a fine example of a figurine by Les étains du Graal. Here, Hugues de Payens rallies his knights before leading into battle.
His shiled is absolutely magnificent. Its a marvelous replica.
