Legendary figurine by Les Etains du Graal - Urien with chair

Piece for round table set by Les étain du graal.

Sir Urien is one of the characters of the round table, very interesting for several reasons.  t
First of all, Urien did really exist. He as the son of Cynfarch Oer, a breton king of Rheged, a small kingdom in Wales, situated inbetween England and the south of Scotland, as it is now but around the end of the 6th century. s

It is largely due to his great number of victories over his saxon or more accurately his Angle enemies that Urien entered the arthurien legend and became Urien of Gorre.
And he isn't alone. His son Owain, enters the stage at this point under the name of Sir Yvain.
Whilst Uther Pendragon wwas king of Ogre, Urien married Arthur's sister known as Morganne (the fairy)  according to certain stories.
At the death of Uther Pendragon, he was very much opposed to Arthur's ascent to the throne.
Once he was put firmly in his place, he became a servant and ally to king Arthur.

Sir Urien conveys his allegiance to the round table pointing his sword solemnly at its center.
The replica of Urien by Les Etains du Graal is magnificent. It is one of my favourites.
Optimised in features, the way his tunic folds over his chain mail is marvelous, his face is so expressive and his helmet covered with feathers.
The knights' chairs are remarkable in their simplicity and it is this that gives them such charm.

A reinforced pin under one foot allow this figurine to be attached in his allotted place at the round table.
