Drapeau du Pays BigoudenThe history of the Pays-Bigouden flag is very complicated. This flag is the first of its nature for a mini-"county".  It was an initiative of the APPB (Association de Promotion du Pays-Bigouden)  where Bernard Le Brun was contacted with the request to produce a flag. Following various ideas, the final design was agreed with red on a yellow background.

The colours are those of Pont-l’Abbé, the regional capital. The first project included 20 ermine tips representing the traditional districts of the region. Ambroise Guellec, President of the APPB claimed that there were in fact 23, at the end of 1992. The red was replaced by orange representing local needle work traditions. These changes took place without permission of the original designer. So, Bernard Le Brun requested further changes be made following these arbitrary decisions. In June 1996, the orange was replaced by the red agreed initially, as the designer preferred. Furthermore, Ploneis, a Glazik district refused to be counted among the districts on the flag, so one ermine was deleted!
