Egyptian figurine by Les Etains du Graal - Anubis
Anubis is certainly seen as the most recognised of the ancient gods of Egypte simply because of his familiar form.
Represented either as a sitting jackal or a man with the head of a jackal.
He is master of the necropolis and protector of embarmers.
No one knows exactly the etymology of the name Anubis. There are a great many different explanations, some could be credible, others quite wierd.
in 2005, Terence Duquesne a british egyptologist made the suggestion that we can only derive perhaps an onomatapaic imitation of his bark (yanoup)
