Was William Wallace a legendary character ?
No, because his campaigns during the Scottish battle for independence proved to be of such great renoun and so decisive, he quickly became a legend.
William Wallace, known as "William Braveheart Wallace" was born in 1270 to a lesser noble scottish family. He was a brave knight thanks to the education he received from his uncle Argheim, speaking both latin and french. He even lived for some time in France before returning to Scotland.
William Wallace was to win the famous Battle of Stirling despite King Edward I 's soldiers outnumbering his.
Inprisoned and condemned to death for high treason, he was tortured and then executed on August 23 1305. King Edward I had his body parts displayed in the four corners of England. As for his head, it was placed on London Bridge.
